Why AMIGOV?

Research and policy debates on migration governance in Africa have expanded considerably in recent years, from regional mobility frameworks and labour migration to climate mobility, border governance and interregional partnerships.

Yet knowledge exchange between researchers, policymakers and practitioners remains fragmented. African perspectives, institutions and priorities are often underrepresented in international research collaboration and policy debates, and research and policy initiatives are frequently disconnected from each other.

AMIGOV has been initiated by scholars based in Africa and Europe, through three established networks: IMISCOE, AMMODI and ACSRM. Rather than creating another silo, it aims to connect and amplify what is already happening.

What do we envision?

A broad, horizontal and inclusive network, driven by researchers and open to everyone working on or interested in African migration governance.

  • Shaped by its members Priorities and activities will grow out of members' interests, engagement and ideas.
  • Open and horizontal Free membership across research, policy and practice, across regions and career stages.
  • Built to last The network will develop gradually, with an emphasis on long-term sustainability.

How can you contribute?

AMIGOV is a research community in the making. We invite you to share your ideas on what the network should do and how it could be useful to you, whether you want to take an active part in shaping it or simply stay informed.

Questions, or ideas you would rather share directly? Write to contact@amigov.org.
